September is the time when damsons are coming into season and with lots dropping off of the trees, we decided to make a crumble! We also used some homegrown apples from the trees in the garden too! The stones were a pain to try and get out, as they are cling-fruit, so we just had to be careful when eating it š
Ingredients: Filling
- 900g of Damsons
- 2 Medium Sized Cooking Apples (Sliced)
- 50g Light Brown Soft Sugar
- Slice of Butter
Ingredients: Crumble
- 250g GF Plain Flour
- 150g Unsalted Butter
- 80g Light Brown Soft Sugar
- 80g Demerara Sugar
Method
- In a pan, mix the damsons, butter and sugar together and heat until the damsons are soft.
- Add the sliced apples and mix.
- Put the filling into a shallow dish which is oven safe.
- In another bowl, rub the butter into the flour with your hands.
- Then add the light brown and demerara sugar and mix.
- Spread the crumble over the top of the damson and apple mixture.
- Bake in the oven for 30-40 mins until golden brown.
- Serve with custard or ice-cream, and watch out for the stones!
