September is the time when damsons are coming into season and with lots dropping off of the trees, we decided to make a crumble! We also used some homegrown apples from the trees in the garden too! The stones were a pain to try and get out, as they are cling-fruit, so we just had to be careful when eating it š
Ingredients: Filling
900g of Damsons
2 Medium Sized Cooking Apples (Sliced)
50g Light Brown Soft Sugar
Slice of Butter
Ingredients: Crumble
250g GF Plain Flour
150g Unsalted Butter
80g Light Brown Soft Sugar
80g Demerara Sugar
Method
In a pan, mix the damsons, butter and sugar together and heat until the damsons are soft.
Add the sliced apples and mix.
Put the filling into a shallow dish which is oven safe.
In another bowl, rub the butter into the flour with your hands.
Then add the light brown and demerara sugar and mix.
Spread the crumble over the top of the damson and apple mixture.
Bake in the oven for 30-40 mins until golden brown.
Serve with custard or ice-cream, and watch out for the stones!
